Summary

  Summary

A highly readable autobiography. The author was born of Deaf parents in a culture that was Deaf, and as a hearing toddler felt at home whether in the company of Deaf or hearing people. When he developed a hearing loss of his own, things changed. It meant hearing aids, speech therapy, hearing schools, and a recommendation that no sign language be used in his presence. Growing up, he managed to survive in the hearing world but as a Deaf adult, realised something was missing and he rediscovered the joys of Deafness.
