Theuse of "lenses" for viewing interpersonal interactions frames each essay, allowing students to understand multiple perspectives and to apply cutting-edge research to their own lives. The fifth edition has been updated and reorganized to reflect the ever-changing field of interpersonalcommunication. The new edition has updated the technology section with new essays about presenting the self online, and the impact of the internet on social tolerance. A new section on the "Dark Side" of interpersonal communication has also been added, reflecting the latest interpersonalcommunication research.
